Is Belly Dance good for you? Will it help with my back pain?

Belly Dance is an excellent form of mild exercise. It is low impact, so it is an excellent choice for those who have joint pain or are carrying a bit of extra weight. It is also excellent for those who suffer from back pain. Belly Dance will improve core strength and flexibility, which in turn help alleviate back pain. Finally, as with all exercise, Belly Dance releases endorphins or "feel good" hormones to improve your mood.

Do I have to show my belly during class?

Nope, most students are uncomfortable showing their belly and therefore choose not to show it in class. However it is important to wear clothing that is somewhat form fitting (no loose t-shirts) in order for the instructor to correct your technique. Snug athletic clothing or yoga wear are ideal for class.

What do I need to bring to class?

    • A yoga mat for warm up and cool down
    • A water bottle to keep hydrated
    • A hip scarf (Can be purchased on the first class from your instructor)
    • Bare feet, socks or pink ballet slippers for dance oriented class. If you require more arch support, please discuss with the instructor, as some exercises will be modified for you.

I am not coordinated. Can I still do the class?

Definitely! The beginner class is all about having fun with all the other ladies who also feel uncoordinated as you learn some sexy moves and strengthen and limber up your waistline.

I am out of shape/ overweight. Is this going to be a problem?

Being out of shape or overweight should not be an issue. Belly Dance is a great low impact way to get back into shape and lose inches from your waistline. However, if you have reoccurring injuries or medical issues be sure to discuss them with the instructor so she can suggest modifications when appropriate.

Will there be any opportunity to make up a missed class?

Yes. You may drop in to one of the other classes that are running for up to 2 classes. Please note that make up classes must be used during the same session and they are non transferable to other people.

Do you offer drop in classes?

Not regularly. Any given individual may drop in once to a class in order to try it out, however drop in's are not encouraged, as throughout each session the movements progressively speed up and degree of explanation decreases.

Do I have to perform?

No. Performance in our annual student show is completely voluntary.

Are there performance opportunities available?

Yes. We host an annual student show in which all levels may perform a group choreography. The advanced class also performs in community events and festivals.

What is the age limit in the Baby Bellies Class?

Baby Bellies is for babies between 3 months and 1 year old. Your baby should have some neck control and be comfortable in a sling for up to 1 hour. If you are uncomfortable carrying your baby in a sling, you can also place them on a large blanket, or in a playpen or stroller for the class.

What if my baby needs feeding, changing, or is fussy during class?

Baby Bellies is just for moms and babies, so baby behavior such as fussing or crying, etc. is expected and is no big deal. A table and chairs will be set at the side for emergency feeding and or diaper changes.

Mom's with babies in a carrier, you may be happily surprised to find your baby lulled to sleep by these natural feminine movements.

What do I need to bring to class?

    • A yoga mat for warm up and cool down
    • A water bottle to keep hydrated
    • A hip scarf is optional (Can be purchased on the first class from your instructor)
    • Bare feet, socks or pink ballet slippers. If you require more arch support, please discuss with the instructor, as some exercises will be modified for you.
